Safety Notes

Tree across the Little Ouse

During the 2020 season, the number of paddlers in the East Region of British Canoeing has increased significantly. At the same time, many of the Canoe Clubs in the Region have been offering a much reduced training programme due to the problems created by Covid19 Restrictions and the Rule of 6. This has led to a lack of training being available for many new paddlers in the region.

These Safety Notes have been written to try and provide paddlers with more information about the challenges they are likely to encounter if paddling on fresh water rivers that are full of water (winter levels as opposed to summer levels) and when paddling on Tidal Rivers and Estuaries. They have been written by a group of experienced coaches from the East Region, who in normal times would be running both Skills and Safety & Rescue Training. Hopefully 2021 will be rather more normal than 2020 has been.

We hope these Safety Notes are helpful.

Stay Safe. If in doubt, don't take the risk.
